I couldn’t resist this hilarious photo op. So here he is, about to go into a Hyperbaric chamber to accelerate his wound healing. Thank you to a random blog reader, Jenn, for suggesting it.
He’s now being seen by a special wound care center, and having his wounds monitored daily again. They told us that nothing is abnormal about Nick’s wounds, only his progress. Despite having shrunk a noticeable amount, his stumps still have quite a bit of swelling and inflammation. This is inhibiting oxygen from getting to his tissue down there. The hyperbaric oxygen therapy will force oxygen into his cells, allowing for a faster recovery.
Being in the chamber is roughly equivalent to diving 33 feet. No problem. Nick’s been SCUBA diving for years, and has routinely gone two, three, and sometimes four times that deep. But instead of swimming weightlessly in the ocean, witnessing the unique and beautiful undersea plant and animal life, he watched Austin Powers, which is almost just as good.
