Last night was one of our worst nights sleep. It’s heartbreaking to wake at 3am to Nick squirming, rubbing his legs and panicked, ready to get up out of bed to ease the pain. Phantom pain is definitely getting worse. And we are suspicious that his leg pain (phantom and real) is stemming from the nerves in his back. The pain is getting worse, and different. Nick spoke to his spine surgeon yesterday, who said to get new Xrays and see him this week. We’ll be doing that all on Friday.
I put Nick through a great workout this morning, focusing on getting him upright, on his knees. We worked on trunk stabilization and using his legs to hold himself up. His arms get exhausted first, because he’s mainly using them for his balance. A little bit everyday, and he should be balancing in no time.
On an AMAZING, now-unique note of fun and pure ‘living”, I went skydiving today!! Well, Nick made me jump, and I loved it! I got one jump in with my girlfriend Carly who was visiting from Vegas. It was surreal. I know it’s only been eleven weeks since my last jump, and I used to jump everyday, but still!! Still. It was amazing to feel so free. My favorite part was sitting in the back of the plane on the way up to altitude. I got the seat right next to the open door, and we kept it open until nine thousand feet. The billowing, majestic clouds on the horizon reminded me how precious every moment in life is. Life can be taken from any one of us in an instant. It’s important to experience something beautiful and exciting everyday. Or at least see something beautiful and exciting in the mundane. Either way, it’s about how you choose to look at things. Making one silly skydive from 12,500 feet helped me change my perspective today.
