I love my friends! Holy cow… I seriously have the best friends in the whole world. What am I saying? WE have the best friends EVER! The tireless dedication, love and support from our amazing family and friends, near and far, is the secret to our success. Thank You!
So, Nick and I have made a few commitments to one another in the past few weeks. Actually, it’s been more like me making him promise not to hurt himself any worse during this healing process. I want him to push himself like a maniac to get stronger, while at the same time making good decisions and being safe. I probably remind him to “take it slow” several times a day. Usually when he’s sliding across a thin piece of wood with only hot asphalt below to catch his fall. We have NO room for set backs! A fall on those sensitive stumps would be excruciating and costly. One of our other commitments is that while he is still mastering wheelies, he only practice while a spotter is behind him. I’ve been very clear with him that I don’t find head trauma to be very sexy. So what does Fener do tonight? Yep, when excitedly saying hello to a dear friend he goes for an unspotted wheelie, next to a slope, and nearly goes over backward on the asphalt. His arms went flailing to the sides, trying to grab air and maintain balance. He looked like an owl clinging to the glass in a wind tunnel. Hannah and I panicked and Nick let out a yell. I lunged forward, grabbed a nub and pulled him back onto all four wheels. I wanted to smack him upside the head, I was so pissed. I almost did, too, without thinking. Sorry babe.
This is my official call for awareness and assistance from all of our friends and family. Nick has a slick little hot rod chair now. Stay close, because Nick’s a daredevil, and you never know when you might find yourself grabbing a nub and saving the day!
