“Get busy livin’ or get busy dyin’” —Nicks all time favorite quote, The Shawshank Redemption
Today, Nick decided to get busy livin’. He has employed a freight train mentality about his injuries. Let’s do something about it and move on with life. His attitude is absolutely unbelievable! I know Nick to be a solid dude, but my awe over the level of strength and tenacity of this man has just sky rocketed. And his tolerance for pain just doesn’t seem real. I’m talkin about Iron Man here. It’s only day 12, and PT had him sitting up in bed, with his poor broken legs dangling off the edge. Now, it took 4 of us to get him in that position, and he only stayed sitting up for about two minutes, but that’s still incredible progress. Day 12!!!
We had some brutally honest, sometimes funny and inappropriate, Fener-ific conversations with his surgeons. Nick’s not shy, he demands the truth and wants to just git’r dun. Thank God. Because some of these up and coming decisions are too personal for someone else (me) to make. Hence why I battled hard to get his medications correct. Now he is taking charge! Go Nick!
We had a super special visitor today. Our friend Yuri came to see Nick. He came all the way from the 4th floor. Yuri is a friend and coworker who was also in a skydiving accident, just 35 days before Nick. God spared him too! They had a lot of laughs together in the brief visit. And it gave us hope to see how well Yuri is doing so soon. As irony would have it, the very last thing I said to Nick before his accident was about Yuri. As Nick was rushing out the door for work that morning, we made plans to finally go visit Yuri that evening. Damn Nick, we could have gone about it in a much simpler way!
Tonight I left Nick in his super dark room, snoring away. He managed to FINALLY fall asleep. And for the first time in 6+ years, I heard him talking in his sleep. Dude was having full on conversations. Very random conversations. But hopefully he sleeps soundly for many hours. He talked all day long today and got completely exhausted.
